Why Licensing Actually Matters

Gas work isn't a job to gamble on

Unlicensed gas work is illegal in Western Australia, and it can immediately void your home insurance and any manufacturer warranty on the appliance itself. It's also a genuine safety issue, gas leaks and poorly connected appliances carry real risk, not a hypothetical one.

Every job we do is carried out under our Gas Fitting Licence GF20463, whether it's connecting a new cooktop, installing a gas heater, or responding to a suspected leak. Certified, compliant, and done properly the first time.

FAQs on Gas Fitting

There are some questions that we get asked about gas fitting.

I can smell gas, what do I do?

Turn off the gas at the meter, open windows and doors, avoid using electrical switches, and call us immediately.

Do you connect new gas appliances?

Yes, including cooktops, ovens and bayonets.

Do I need an electrician to connect an electric hot water system?

In most cases, no. Ashley holds a Restricted Electrical Licence, which covers disconnecting and reconnecting fixed-wired appliances like electric hot water systems, and replacing defective components within them on a like-for-like basis. For a standard hot water system swap or repair, that's all covered under his existing licence.

What's the difference between a gas fitter and a gas plumber?

In practice, not much for a job like this, Ashley's licensed for both plumbing (PL10590) and gas fitting (GF20463), so one call covers it either way.

Why is my gas flame orange instead of blue?

A healthy gas flame should burn blue. An orange, yellow or flickering flame usually means the gas isn't burning cleanly, often caused by a dirty burner, poor air-to-gas mixture, or in some cases, incomplete combustion producing carbon monoxide.

This isn't something to leave and monitor. If you notice an orange flame on any gas appliance, turn it off and get it checked by a licensed gas fitter.
